WVU's Ben Hampton to build off Cape Success

When WVU LHP Ben Hampton arrived in Chatham this past summer for the Anglers of the Cape Code Baseball League I'm sure he expected to have success, but whether it was the "All-Star" level of success which he garnered, no one probably knows except for him... he has been very effective for WVU but the Cape Code Baseball League is certainly a step up in terms of competition. Hampton did not back down from the challenge as he ultimately put up significantly better numbers in the prestigious Cape Code Baseball League ending the summer with 42.2ip, 32H, 11er, 2hr, only 4 bb and 49k. His upper 80s fastball combined with a high 70s slider and low 80s change-up was enough to send hitters back to the dugout without getting a chance to run it out hence the 49ks over 42.2ip. Bigger fella at 6ft1 205lb... smooth, repeatable delivery that should be able to handle a velocity jump in the future. What makes this young man special is not his spin rates and vertical/horizontal break but his true feel as a pitcher with the ability to mix pitches in any count and keep hitters off balance. The ability to throw strikes on any count with all his pitches coupled with the changes in speed from the various offerings allows him to really challenge the hitter's ability to adjust.

UConn's David Smith leaves no stone unturned

Uconn Redshirt Junior MIF David Smith makes the most of every opportunity and is not afraid to work hard. His patience in general has clearly helped him at the plate... having to sit out in 21' due to transfer regulations David Smith was not fazed and got right to work. Smith a tremendous athlete has made it clear his LHH bat can not be overlooked... helping lead Uconn to a Regional this past season he showed the ability to go deep (9HR) but is also a major threat in terms of raw speed... collecting five triples and 23 SB. Smith ended the 2022 Division 1 season with a slash line of .307/.405/.496 in 258 at bats. Smith has now earned the title of "Captain" for the University of Connecticut Baseball team.

GLVC Conference- Maryville University's Andy Bunton

1/17/23Maryville University's Redshirt Junior, Andy Bunton competing in the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference is what you ask for in a MIF... reliable, gritty, athletic and flat out looks to win each inning, at bat and play in the field. Bunton led a GLVC playoff team last year in stolen bases (17) while starting in all 52 contests... .327 avg. in 168 abs while drawing 36 free bases compared to 19 K.. posted a .977 fielding % in 216 chances. Plays for Pat Evers at Maryville University (Saint Louis, Missouri), former head coach at national Division 1 NJCAA powerhouse, Jefferson Community College (MO).

Western Kentucky's Terbrak looks to make noise

1/17/2023LHP Devyn Terbrak (5th Year Senior) has been a very reliable arm for WKU over the years and is a true pitcher in every sense. He's got a legit mix of pitches with a repeatable delivery from the left side and can run up to 90mph for strikes. In his 156.2ip at WKU he has only issued 28 walks... while striking out 130 hitters. He really caught some attention last year pitching 8ip vs Illinois early on allowing only 7 hits, one walk and 7ks... He has one of the most projectable frames (True 6ft2 195lb might be slightly taller than listed..) you could ask for in a pitcher... he is flexible all over with excellent lower half mobility allowing him to separate well from his upper body, which is more than likely keeping his arm fresh over the years enabling him to go late into games and develop. In his final outing of 2022 vs. a very good Old Dominion club, Terbrak showed the ability to compete going 7.1ip allowing only 5 hits, 2ER, 6K and no walks... Does a nice job fielding from his position as well. Look for Terbrak to make noise this season at WKU..

24’ Ortega Owns the Field (GBG Metrics Day)

24’ C/IF/OF Efren Ortega (DNA Prep Academy) R/RStuck out like a sore thumb at Garciaparra Baseball Group metrics day. Ortega had a cannon in the outfield with great momentum towards the plate on throws.. event best 92mph from OF. He also had an event best pop time (1.87 seconds) & catcher velocity (78mph).. very advanced actions behind the plate for a player his age. Was up to 96mph off the bat too.. Well known player in the travel ball circuit and plays for one of the very best travel ball teams in the country, Garciaparra Baseball Group (GBG Navy).

24' Julio Solier Springfield Central is the real deal

1/6/232024' SS/INF/RHP Julio Solier (Springfield Central HS, MA) showed a lot of promise at the Baseball Data Combine All-State Event this past October. He has been a dominant force in High school and throughout the travel ball circuit, whether it be down south or his home territory in New England playing for Next Level Beast. He has plus speed and a strong arm coupled with excellent instincts at the plate... had seen him drive a ball 95mph to centerfield/right field gap off 1st pitch Change up (off upper 80s arm) at the BDC All-State event this October. Solier has been upper 80s off the bump with solid secondaries. Has a chance to be a legitimate two-way player at the D1 level but true potential is most likely the MIF... excellent runner running a sub 6.7 60yd dash in October... Look for this young man at Springfield Central HS in Massachusetts.. He is bound to make some noise with a very strong Springfield Central team... same HS as Major League Player, Isan Diaz (MIF)... who was drafted out of Springfield HS in 2014 (2nd RD Arizona Diamondbacks)

24' RHP Bridges to Winchendon School (Prep)

1/6/202324' RHP Eric Bridges (Winchendon school HS prep, Massachusetts)Coming from St. Mary's Lynn HS to Winchendon school this year, Eric Bridges should provide all around athleticism in the field and be a force on the mound. As a freshman at St. Mary's Lynn Bridges helped pitch his team to a State Championship by throwing a complete game 7-inning shutout. He has shown nice progression while growing into his body and adding velocity.. we have seen him up to 87mph as of last summer while also running a sub 7 60yd dash and being up to 87mph from infield all as a true sophomore. He has command most importantly with repeatable mechanics and excellent focus on the mound. Can throw all of his pitches in any count for a strike, he wants to win. He isn't focused on blowing it by the hitter, he's focused on winning each pitch to win the game. He has the speed/quickness to be in the MIF and the arm to be in RF or 3B. Bridges overall should be a very nice addition to Winchendon Academy.

23’ Cornelius Commits

23’ RHP and two sport superstar Evan Cornelius (Milford HS Massachusetts) has committed to Rollins College in Florida to play baseball. Star quarterback at Milford HS one of the best QBs in New England… tremendous frame and upside. Can really run for a guy his size. Reports of his Fastball being up to the low 90s. He’s got plus secondary pitches to compliment the heater. Look for him to make an immediate impact at Rollins College.

25' Soroko comes out on top

12/17/22'25 Sophomore OF/SS/RHP Cam Soroko (Saugus HS, MA) came out on top at the BDC Boston Showdown Saturday, December 17th when it came to Exit Velocity (93mph), Infield (84mph) & Outfield Velocity (89mph). He is a three sport athlete at Saugus High School in Massachusetts playing soccer in the fall, basketball in the Winter and of course baseball in the Spring. He was on Varsity soccer this past fall, currently varsity basketball as well... in a suburb just north outside of Boston. He was an instrumental part of Saugus HS Varsity baseball team as he hit well over .300 as a true freshman with the ability to be in the leadoff spot with his speed. Has been up to low 80s off the bump as a true freshman… with a nice CB.. Had a varsity basketball game the night before the BDC Boston Showdown at 10am. Has been up to 90mph in the outfield this past summer, 86mph in the infield and up to 95mph off the bat. Excellent prospect all around. True potential to be a legit 5 tool player.
